Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival is a unique event combining a feature film festival with the sub-festivals of animated films, student films and children/youth films. The festival aims to present Estonian audiences a comprehensive selection of world cinema in all its diversity with the emphasis on European films, providing a friendly atmosphere for interaction between the audience, Estonian filmmakers and their colleagues from abroad.

The 14th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival takes place from 19 November to 5 December 2010.

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival consists of the main programme, four sub-festivals, as well as film and co-production markets:

Black Nights Film Festival main programme (24 November - 5 December) – International competition programme EurAsia and Tridens Baltic feature film competition. Informative side programmes include fiction and documentary features from previous 2 years, retrospective of a filmmaker, genre or studio, and focus on a country.

Student and Short Film Festival Sleepwalkers (20 - 24 November) – International competition of student films from previous 2 years – fiction, documentary or animation films; national competition of Estonian short films and special programmes.

Animation Film Festival Animated Dreams (19 – 23 November) – Competition of short animations from previous 2 years. Additional non-competitive programmes include a retrospective of a filmmaker and focus on a country.

Children and Youth Film Festival Just Film(19 – 28 November) – Competition of children’s films and youth films. Non-competitive special programmes.

Nokia Mobile Phone Film Festival MOFF (1 September - 3 December) – Competition of short films made with mobile phones.

Black Market Industry Screenings (1-3 December) - regional cinema and audiovisual market focusing on the new films from the neighbouring regions and smaller film industry countries: Central and Eastern European countries, Nordic countries, Russia and countries like Georgia, Ukraine, Romania, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyztan, Tadjikistan.

KLIK!ESTONIA//KLÕPS is an animation festival featuring a fine selection of animations from the KLIK!AMSTERDAM

festival plus some interesting & original stuff from Estonian animators. The Festival program features a large number of short animations and two animated feature length films.

International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS

2ANNAS is an international film festival, which offers films made by young professional filmmakers, winners of international festivals, students and graduates of film schools from all over the world.

Every May, 2ANNAS offers a range of short film collections – features, animation, music videos, and documentaries – in its original competition and special programs, which are screened in Riga’s cinemas and other venues. The festival hosts lectures and photo exhibitions, as well as theater and music performances, “out-of-box events”, and other activities within the rich city environment and the vibrant multi-talented 2ANNAS atmosphere.

The only short film festival in Latvia is organized by a film studio “URGA”.

The New Theatre Institute

The New Theatre Institute of Latvia is an actively transparent organization whose mandate is to develop and encourage the multi-faceted forms of theatre art—especially new theatre, dance, performance, and circus craft—both locally and internationally.Since 1995 the NTIL organises bi-annual International Festival of Contemporary Theatre “Homo Novus”. The festival is an essential part of Latvian performing arts scene as it is the only international theatre festival, which has contributed to development of new theatre and has raised new audiences loyal to contemporary art.

Waterpieces

The “Waterpieces” festival dates back to 2001. It’s an annual festival of video and contemporary art which consists of a competition for video works, as well as screenings of international programmes, thus providing a comprehensive insight into the latest works of contemporary art linked to the moving image.
